According to business coach Andro Donovan, we all have nine inner “rats” —
voices that sabotage confidence, motivation, and authenticity.
These voices feed on fear, guilt, and perfectionism, keeping us trapped in old patterns.

1️⃣ The Abuser Rat
Always yelling:
“You idiot! You messed up again!”
It thrives on self-hatred and attacks your confidence every time you make a mistake.
2️⃣ The Critic Rat
The voice that finds reasons why nothing will work.
“That’s a bad idea. It’s too risky.”
It builds a whole story of fear out of one small fact — just to stop you from acting.
3️⃣ The Victim Rat
Constantly crying out for sympathy:
“Poor me… Why is life so unfair?”
It drains others’ energy and traps you in self-pity and helplessness.
4️⃣ The Rushing Rat
Always pushing:
“Hurry up! You’re wasting time!”
It never lets you slow down, breathe, or enjoy the moment — it equates rest with failure.
5️⃣ The Judge Rat
Loves to judge — others and yourself.
“You’re not good enough. They’re better.”
It convinces you that constant criticism keeps you sharp, but in truth, it only breeds shame.
6️⃣ The “Be the Best” Rat
Obsesses over one small flaw and ignores 50 praises.
“You failed because of that one mistake.”
It’s the root of perfectionism and anxiety.
7️⃣ The “Please Love Me” Rat
Seeks approval at all costs.
“If they don’t like me, I’m worthless.”
It makes you dependent on others’ validation and afraid to be authentic.
8️⃣ The Clever Rat
Over-rationalizes emotions.
“You’re not hurt — you’re just being logical.”
It shields you from pain but disconnects you from your heart.
9️⃣ The Coward Rat
Whispers warnings:
“Don’t do it. It could go wrong.”
It predicts disaster to keep you “safe” in your comfort zone — away from growth.
🧭 How to Deal with Your Rats
- Recognize and name the voice.
- Pause — breathe instead of reacting.
- Reconnect with the real you, not your fears.
- Listen, but don’t obey.
- Replace the voice with one that says:
“I’m learning. I’m growing. I’m enough.”
