20 Habits That Kill Our Productivity

June 30, 2020 By Olesia Ulianova

1. Getting Distracted by Everything

Distractions are inevitable, but that doesn’t mean you must react to them. If it’s not related to work — save it for your break.

2. Having No Goal

Turn your dreams into clear, specific tasks. Until you do, they’ll remain just dreams you occasionally sigh about.

3. Having Too Many Goals

Don’t plan more than you can realistically handle. You can’t give every task enough focus, and everything may fall apart.

4. Procrastinating

The longer we delay a task, the less likely we’ll ever get it done.

5. Replacing Real Life with TV

If TV characters’ lives excite you more than those of your friends and family — it’s time to make a change.

6. Forgetting Regular Meals

Sometimes the workload feels endless, but skipping meals leads to burnout. Feed your body — it’s your main productivity tool.

7. Ignoring Your Finances

Tracking income and expenses is as important as taking care of your health. Don’t neglect financial hygiene.

8. Spending Time on Others’ Problems

You’re the only person fully responsible for your life. Protect your time — it’s your most valuable asset.

9. Not Writing Things Down

Writing helps you stay organized and frees your mind for deeper focus. Jot down key ideas — don’t keep them all in your head.

10. Having No Daily Routine

It’s not about strict schedules but consistent morning and evening rituals that set the tone for your day.

11. Working Without Breaks

Your body and brain need rest. When you feel tired — pause. Even short breaks boost performance.

12. Multitasking

Doing several things at once is a trap. It increases workload but reduces results. Every task deserves its own focus.

13. Postponing Household Tasks

Even during busy times, handle basic chores: pay bills, wash dishes, do laundry. Chaos at home drains your mental energy.

14. Taking on Too Much

Don’t grab every new idea. Evaluate your current commitments before saying yes to more.

15. Striving for Perfection

Perfection doesn’t exist. Constantly chasing it stops progress and drains your energy.

16. Avoiding Decisions

Tough decisions are tough for a reason. If you don’t choose, someone else will — and you may not like the outcome.

17. Consuming Too Much Information

Mental clutter is worse than physical mess. Stick to minimalism: one email account, one main bill, one storage space.

18. Neglecting Your Health

No ambition matters if you’re burned out. Eat well, sleep enough, stay active — energy is your greatest resource.

19. Quitting Halfway

Break big tasks into smaller steps. This approach helps you finish even the hardest projects. Remember: the last 10% takes 90% of the effort.

20. Not Admitting Mistakes

Blaming others or denying your faults won’t help you grow. A mistake is a lesson — learn it and move on.
